When do I pay for the cake?

Everything has to be paid in full TWO WEEKS before your event, and details must be finalized at this point. Late payments require CASH. If you have not paid by one week before your event, I reserve the right to cancel your order.

Do you have pictures of your work?

Absolutely! I have pictures from recent years online (www.kristyskakes.com), and post regularly on my Facebook Fan page (facebook.com/eatkake).

Can you match my wedding colors?

I can sure try! You must provide me with a swatch to use when mixing the icing. I strive to come up with are colors that are complimentary to your wedding if I cannot do an exact match.

Why is there a minimum charge for a wedding or grooms cake?

I dedicate a lot of time to my brides in consultations, finalizing appointments, design work and preparation leading up to each wedding. I have to make sure that each wedding or grooms cake covers the basics costs and covers my time spent.

Do your cakes taste good?

I sure think so! I’ll even give you a selection of flavors to try at your consultation, with fillings and icings.

Do I have to have white cake?

No! It’s your day and I want to make what you want. You can choose a different flavor for each tier if you like.

Can I have a filling?

Absolutely! I have something for every taste.

Due to cottage law rules, however, I cannot sell cakes with fillings that require refigeration. I do, however, have recipes which have been modified and tested for compliance with cottage law rules and regulations.

I’ve heard fondant doesn't’ taste good?

This is a subjective thing, and it has to do with the texture. You will love it or hate it. While Kristy's Kreations can do fondant cakes, I specialize in buttercream cakes that are smooth and have a similar appearance to fondant.

Do I have to pick one of your designs?

Not at all. I have lots of idea books for you to explore and enjoy designing a cake that is just yours. Bring me a picture from the internet or a magazine and I will help you customize it so that you aren’t just “copying” some other bride!

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes. I prefer to give quality time to my brides, and you should allow about an hour for your consultation. These meetings can be scheduled with me at a time that suits you best.

What do I need to bring to the appointment?

If you have a picture of a cake you like, bring it. If you want us to design a cake around your dress, your invitation, color, or your monogram, please bring that., too. Tastings are $25 for up to 5 people. Please be prepared to pay at the time of your appointment. Upon booking, the $25 is applied to the total cost of your cake.

How far in advance to I need to book you?

I can book up as much as 12 months in advance for popular weekends. I limit the number of cakes I take per weekend, so it is never too early to reserve your date! Give me a call to check my availability.

Are there benefits to using sugar paste flowers?

They can last indefinitely if stored properly. They can be a keepsake. Sometimes they are cheaper than fresh flowers; sometimes not...it just depends on the flower and the season. I have a book to show you the options I offer.

Do you serve the cake also?

Yes. Your caterer or friends may provide that service for you, but I can also do this for a small fee. I'll be glad to offer advice on how to easily cut and serve a cake.

What makes your cakes different?

I bake only to order. I have spent over 12 years developing my recipes for family and friends, and I am continually taking classes to advance my skills. I offer tremendous options for the price. My cakes are chilled, but never frozen. I continually strive for quality product over quantity of products.

Can you make “fake tiers” to make my cake look bigger?

I can, but I charge you as though it is real cake. I’d rather discuss options for displaying your cake to make it appear larger.

How big should my cake be?

That’s why I’m here! I discuss many elements of your reception to help you decide how much cake you need.

When do you bake the cakes? Do you freeze them?

I bake fresh for every event. My cakes are never frozen.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of 25% is required to reserve your wedding date. The deposit is applied to your wedding order. If you cancel your wedding order for any reason, you forfeit this money. You cannot transfer it to anyone else or use it on any other type of order. Since I limit the number of brides I book per weekend, cancellations result in lost revenue.

What if I have to cancel my wedding after I’ve paid?

I do not refund money for cancellations within 4 weeks of the wedding date. If you cancel more than 4 weeks before the wedding, I will refund all but the non-refundable down payment (25%).

What if my wedding reception is outside?

I strongly recommend that you not put your cake outside. If you do, it could melt or be damaged by wind, bugs or rain, just to name a few. You will have to sign my release for me to do your cake. You will have to provide a level surface for the cake to sit on. I cannot take responsibility for the success of your cake if you fail to adequately prepare for it. Sugar has its limits. I prefer to deliver as close to reception time when possible.

What if I change the time of my wedding or change my mind on a cake topper or flowers? That is fine. Please notify me one month in advance of your date so I can make arrangements. Since I do not communicate with your vendors, it is very important that I can properly prepare for your cake.
